I couldn't help but post this beautiful picture. Thank you Glenna R. for taking it. Easter is almost here and this symbolizes it perfectly. My concern is how to do the wonderful meal without all the calories and that feeling of "heaviness" you have after gatherings.
Things decided so far: (1) I will make the bunny cake for the little ones but will substitute egg beaters or egg whites for the eggs. That will help a little. And then I will NOT eat more than one piece but will let all the kids have fun serving it to each other at an Easter Tea Party. I am working on what else to include in their party. Ideas anyone?
(2) At least a couple of us will go walking in the local park Easter afternoon. That's a BIG change for family get-togethers.
(3) I am looking for a Smithfield ham that has the Paula Deen label. It is supposed to be already prepared with no glaze needed and has a crunchy top. Should be lower in calories and fat than what I would make and there should not be so many leftovers to eat throughout the week. Not that I don't like my ham! I just can't afford all that leftover stuff cause I'll nibble all week!
(4) Salad fixins are highlighted more this year.
(5) OK... what do I do about those potatoes? WE LOVE mashed potatoes with garlic and cream cheese in them. I think the recipe is Amish Mashed Potatoes and I could eat a 5 lb bag. Hmmmmm
(6) The special carrot cake. Now that's another high risk situation. Could I just eat ONE piece?
So what are you guys going to be doing differently this year?
Am I supposed to be the one going walking? :-p
ReplyDeleteDon't make too little food, as I was planning on taking some of those leftovers home with me. lol
I love the photo. I can't believe how good it turned out. I am so glad you used it.
ReplyDeleteNo one in our family is cooking an Easter Dinner this year so it looks like I am off the hook here. I will be doing the cooking for us. I know what you mean though about the family dinners. I always feel so terrible after eating such a big meal and everything seems to have 9 million calories in it. One year, I used a salad plate to eat off of instead of a dinner plate and my Aunt thought I was crazy. I didn't feel terrible though, LOL, it helped me limit my portions. It is so hard not to over do it. You should try fat free cream cheese in your potatos. That would help.
I will have to check my new magazines for some ideas for your TeaParty. That is such a cute idea. The kids will love it. I saw a photo today of some cupcakes on FB and it was made to look like a bunny tail. It had 2 little feet and a fluffy tail on top of the cup cake. I thougt, how funny.
I think I saw some cupcakes at the local store here like that. I also thought they were cute. The bunny cake is a cut up cake out of two round layers. One layer makes the body and the other layer makes the bowtie and two ears. You have probably seen or made it as the recipe has been out for 20 plus years. I used to make it with my older kids when they were little. They are in their 30's now. Anyway, still working on the menu here.
ReplyDeleteTuesday started out really stressful for me as I thought I lost my son's dog. All I want to do is EAT! Funny how we use food as medication. I think I need to go work in the flowerbeds. Will post later after I don't want to EAT THE WHOLE KITCHEN!!
I have had a rough day today. I woke up grouchy and have just wanted comfort food all day today. I have had to stay busy. I hate days like that. I know exactly what you mean about food being a medication. Good thing I was at work and not at home. I know I would have eaten the house down. The other girls at work who are dieting are having a rough time too. I shamed one of them for going back to her cokes. Cokes have so many empty calories.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to drink more water. When I was loosing weight before, I drank around 80 oz. a day. Drinking more water is supposed to increase your metabolism. The guide I have found says to drink 1 oz. of water for every 2 lbs. of body weight, up to 80-90 oz. Right now, I am doing good to down a 24 oz. bottle. I am working on that.
Tonight, I am making steamed cabbage, broccoli, asparagus, carrots, and talapia. All seasoned with Ms. Dash. I am steaming the fish also. I put all this in my steamer for 15 minutes. The vegetables in one tray and the fish in the other.
